X Opens Cashtag Trading Access With Coinbase and Kraken

  • X now allows U.S. users to transition from supported Cashtags to five participating brokerage platforms.
  • Coinbase, Kraken, and Gemini provide crypto access while Interactive Brokers and Moomoo handle stocks.
  • Trades are not made through X, as users are directed to partner platforms to conduct trades.

X has unveiled its Cashtag Partner Program in the USA on September 15, enabling users a pathway from market conversations on the app to trading at participating brokerage firms.

The program offers support for Cashtags of stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and cryptocurrencies, with Coinbase, Kraken, Gemini, Interactive Brokers, and Moomoo as its launch partners.

The new service expands on X’s Cashtag feature, which allows users to see price details and related posts for any ticker symbol. In the CashTag Partner Program, users can take it a step further by clicking the “Trade” button, which leads them to a participating brokerage firm.

Users don’t make trades on the X app. Instead, they are taken to the app or website of a brokerage firm where they will log in or sign up and then execute their trades.

How the X Cashtag Partner Program Works

A Cashtag consists of a dollar sign followed by the asset’s ticker symbol. It creates interactive links on X where anyone who searches for or posts a particular Cashtag can see the price chart and related posts about the asset.

The new trading service integrates a link to the brokerage in this experience. Users who have opened a supported Cashtag and want to trade can choose “Trade” and browse among the supported brokerages. They will then be redirected to the partner company’s app or website.

After that, account opening and order processing will be handled by the brokerage. The user will log into their current account if they already have one, otherwise, they can create a new account before making any buy/sell transactions.

Mridul Singhai, the lead of product engineering at X, explained how the function combines the ticker information found in the timeline with the market by bringing together price information, conversations, and access to brokerage services.

The program is now open to the users of the U.S. But the ticker is not tradable by every brokerage.

Which Brokers Support X Cashtags?

The five partners involved at the time of launch include companies catering to both cryptocurrencies and regular market securities.

Coinbase, Kraken, and Gemini primarily cater to crypto assets via the Cash App route. Interactive Brokers and Moomoo mainly cater to stocks and ETFs.

This differentiation implies that the list of brokerage options available to a user depends on the type of asset they are considering. Crypto cashtags are mainly directed to Coinbase, Kraken, and Gemini, whereas stocks and ETFs Cashtags are mainly directed to Interactive Brokers and Moomoo.

Interactive Brokers has also mentioned that its current clients can move from the X ticker page to its brokerage accounts for further analysis and order placements.

X Expands Cashtag Trading Access

The September rollout comes after X’s recent rollout of Cashtags beyond the initial offering of market data. The feature was made available to iPhone users in the United States and Canada in April 2026, allowing them to view price charts and associated posts.

In Canada, X was also providing a trading service handover using Wealthsimple. Now, the United States launch brings the broker tie-up to five partners, dealing with cryptocurrencies, stocks, and ETFs.

This launch follows remarks from X’s former head of product last month regarding the imminent launch of the “trade button” for cryptos. The new program makes this possible via partnering brokers.

In an interview, Monique Pintarelli, the head of global advertising for SpaceXAI, explained that the Cashtag collaborations link discussions about finance on X to brokerages.

According to the company, users can go from exploring an asset to engaging in the relevant discussion to interacting with a participating brokerage in a single seamless experience on the platform.

X’s Cashtags include three components of the same process: market data, posts around the data, and access to trading platforms. The trades take place through the participating brokers, and X only acts as the gateway between users and brokers.
