What is Kyber Network? Comprehensive Guide for Beginners

Kyber Network is a DeFi protocol that enables KyberSwap that is a token exchange service. This is a multi-chain network that helps with managing liquidity and trading on it. It was created in 2026 to be implemented in execution, cross-chain trades, and DeFi operations automation.

Kyber Network Provides Interoperability of DeFi Liquidity

Unlike many blockchains, such as Ethereum and Solana, Kyber Network is not an independent blockchain but rather a network of liquidity protocols and solutions aimed at providing decentralized apps and individuals with access to liquidity on various blockchains.

The key product for consumers of Kyber Network is KyberSwap. The platform aggregates liquidity from multiple decentralized exchanges and sources, allowing users to compare routes rather than manually searching individual markets. KyberSwap says its infrastructure has facilitated more than $150 billion in transaction volume and connects to more than 420 liquidity sources across 17 chains.

The model addresses one of DeFi’s structural problems: liquidity is distributed across different protocols and networks. An aggregator can search those sources and construct a route intended to improve execution for a particular trade.

What Is Kyber Network Used For in 2026

KyberSwap currently provides more than basic token swaps. Its product suite includes an aggregator, limit orders, cross-chain swaps, liquidity and earning tools, and portfolio-related features.

Smart Settlement is an on-chain execution layer designed for the purpose of comparing the various possible liquidity pools during the transaction. This was launched by KyberSwap in May 2026.

Limit Order 2.0 was also released by KyberSwap on July 6, 2026. This update included the incorporation of an order book, making limit orders easier for traders to place and accept. All these developments signify the change of focus of Kyber Network from a liquidity provision platform to a decentralized finance platform.

KNC Offers Governance and Ecosystem Utility

KNC is the ERC-20 utility and governance token of the Kyber Network ecosystem. According to Kyber’s documentation, KNC launched on Ethereum in 2017 and was upgraded in 2021, when the previous token was renamed Kyber Network Crystal Legacy, or KNCL.

KNC holders can stake their tokens through KyberDAO and participate in governance votes. Kyber’s documentation says voting rewards are funded from a portion of fees generated by eligible KyberSwap liquidity pools. The precise fee allocation can change through governance decisions.

KNC therefore has a role beyond trading. It has some value based on governance and participation in the Kyber Network ecosystem, but its market value depends on the crypto market and activity in general.

KNC Has Remained Well Below Its 2022 High

The numbers clearly show how much the value of KNC has dropped compared to the previous crypto cycle. According to CoinMarketCap, the all-time high for KNC was $5.72 on April 28, 2022, while its current price is around $0.11 according to their data.

DeFiLlama also notes that KNC was trading at $0.11 and has a market cap of around $18.9 million and a daily trading volume of $2.31 million. The platform recorded the lowest price of KNC, which is around $0.10, as of June 2026.

The figures show how the two differ. Features of the KyberSwap protocol do not necessarily result in higher KNC prices due to the existing liquidity, market, and smart contract risks.

Security Is Still the Primary Issue for Kyber

The history of Kyber shows that DeFi liquidity protocols also carry risks. On November 22, 2023, KyberSwap Elastic suffered a major exploit that affected liquidity pools across several networks. CoinDesk reported the initial loss at about $48 million.

Kyber later said in a February 7, 2024 post-mortem that its Treasury Grant Program distributed grants covering 100% of affected funds for users who submitted applications. The above case entailed the unauthorized removal of funds from the compromised Elastic pool and was a cause for major modifications to the product strategy of the concerned project.

In the current documentation of KyberSwap, the Elastic and Classic products have been discontinued while others like the aggregator keep running. Security features mentioned include third-party audits and a bug-bounty program.

What Happens Next?

The roadmap on Kyber’s website dated April 10, 2026, highlights some additional areas where work will be done in the H2 2026 period, such as Unified Asset Portfolio Tracking, Smart DCA, loyalty programs, and KyberCross One Click development. These are the roadmap promises, not deadlines; therefore, it is necessary to separate the features that are under development from those already launched.

For investors and users of DeFi, the main metrics would be the transaction volume on KyberSwap, liquidity level, quality of execution, security record, and participation in governance.
