Trump Media Crypto Expansion Scales Back as CRO Deal Ends

Trump Media Crypto Expansion Scales Back as CRO Deal Ends

  • The venture of Trump Media for CRO treasury service was abandoned because of competition in the digital asset treasury space.
  • Crypto.com abandoned its ETF service plans as Truth Social changed their strategy from prediction markets to marketing.
  • Trump Media owns Bitcoin but prefers to focus on data licensing for media operations and its TAE acquisition.

Trump Media crypto plans are being reduced as Trump Media and Technology Group, Crypto.com, and Yorkville Acquisition Corp. terminate their proposed CRO treasury venture and revise other parts of their partnership.

The companies announced on August 7 that they mutually ended plans for Trump Media Group CRO Strategy, citing market conditions and shifting priorities. The proposed venture would have created a company to accumulate and stake Cronos’ CRO token.

Trump Media is also ending Crypto.com’s planned role in servicing certain Yorkville America ETFs and replacing a planned prediction-market integration with a marketing agreement.

Trump Media Crypto Treasury Venture Ends

The proposed CRO strategy was announced in 2025. The venture would have created a company to accumulate and stake CRO.

The proposal included more than $1 billion of CRO, $200 million in cash, $220 million from warrant exercises, and access to a $5 billion equity line. Separately, Trump Media purchased $105 million of CRO from Crypto.com in September 2025.

CRO fell as much as 5%. Interim CEO Kevin McGurn told Axios that the digital asset treasury market had become saturated. He identified competition rather than regulation as the reason for abandoning the CRO venture.

Key changes

  • The CRO treasury company has ended.
  • Crypto.com will no longer service certain planned Yorkville America ETFs.
  • The Truth Social prediction-market plan has shifted to marketing.

ETF and Truth Social Plans Change

The companies ended an agreement for Crypto.com to service certain Yorkville America ETFs. The companies said Yorkville America’s existing and future ETF plans remain unchanged, meaning the change concerns Crypto.com’s servicing role.

Trump Media is changing its prediction-market plan with Crypto.com. The original plan called for Crypto. com-powered prediction-market infrastructure to be integrated directly into Truth Social.

The companies are moving to marketing. Trump Media’s first-quarter SEC filing said Truth Predict remained under development. The revised arrangement removes direct integration.

Bitcoin Exposure Remains

Trump Media crypto exposure also includes Bitcoin. Company filings showed that Trump Media held 9,542 BTC at the end of the second quarter.

Earlier this week, Trump Media moved 2,628 BTC, worth about $165 million, to Crypto. com-associated addresses. The transfer followed its Crypto.com partnership. The reported second-quarter holding figure reflects the company’s position at the end of that reporting period.

Trump Media is also focusing on media, data licensing and its proposed merger with fusion-energy company TAE Technologies. McGurn said the company hopes to complete the merger before the end of 2026. The December deal was valued at more than $6 billion.

Trump Media Narrows Crypto Expansion

The changes affect separate crypto initiatives. The CRO treasury venture was terminated due to market conditions and shifting priorities cited by the companies. The ETF arrangement ended Crypto.com’s planned servicing role, while the Truth Social prediction-market plan moved to marketing.

The CLARITY Act has also stalled in Washington amid debates over ethics and potential conflicts involving Trump and his family’s crypto ventures. However, the companies did not cite the legislation as the reason for terminating the CRO strategy.

These developments have left Trump Media exposed to digital assets without having many cryptocurrency plans going on. Trump Media is focusing its efforts on the media business, data licensing, and the impending TAE merger.
